Lambeth Conference 2020

Without great fanfare news of a planned Lambeth Conference for 2020 has become available. The site for the conference has gone live and so we look for much hope. The theme set for the Conference is 'God's Church for God's World' which is a timely reminder not to be overrun simply by the organisation of the Church but rather to focus on the Mission of the Church. The name Lambeth Conference derives from the name of the ArchBishop of Canterbury's residence, which is Lambeth Palace, across the Thames from The Palace of Westminster. The first Conference met in 1867. All the Bishops of the Communion are invited. The Conference has met generally every ten years, with some disturbance due to the World Wars. Since 1978 the Conference has happened at the University of Kent, a couple of kilometers north of Canterbury Cathedral. There is no doubt that the dual citizenship saga in recent months has been a major distraction, and a huge waste of money. There is no doubt that it was a very confident Bill Shorten who started rolling jaffers down the aisle. Of course in the last couple of days this has come back to bite him. No one has suggested that anyone who has been caught in this saga has ever acted in a way that was outside the national interests of Australia. At the time that the Constitution came into being there was no such thing as an Australian Citizen. As such members of any country with allegiance to the King/Queen was eligible. Eulogy delivered on behalf of the Family at her Funeral 12/10/2007 following her death 8/10/2007 Mum was born May 6, to Tom & Edith Goodland in Ayelsbury in England. Places and dates are not the story. Mum wasn't good with some dates, including the year of her birth. Those who try to document her life will have their own challenges. Many stories we never got to the bottom of. Something happened on birdcage walk. She was not an open book, and saw no merit in it and let people draw their own conclusions. In the Young Conservatives she met Peter Barrington. Their love was never conservative. It was a grand romance, passionate and consuming. Dad was No 1. They were a team. In 1951 they came to Australia – Mum called this the honeymoon – and they built a new and successful life together here.
